about

Sequent & Skruff come by way of Austria and are two names that, though fresh out of the gate are destined to become very successful with a bright future within the DnB scene. Their versatile smooth style with bouts of grimey, tech-driven squelches and basslines will send the floor into a frenzy right as they thought it was safe to take a break. Think the video of DJ Fresh's Slam. Of course, you probably won't be dancing like that on the street to these tunes... or maybe you will.

Skruff and Sequent come together with the title track for the EP, Thread. Punchy, classic, liquid vibes run it here. You thought it would never come. Melodic keys, luscious pads, snappy drums, male vocal snips, reverb...
Skruff moves in for the next two – Keys and So Wrong – bringing on strength from the intro of Keys, the bassline rolls following a pad intro. Looks are often deceiving, as the listener is driven to believe in a classic liquid track – but the offset of amens lead to another trail of melodic, bass-driven dance. Those who know The Architex remember the infectious Dance of the Titanium Minds – Keys has this effect. You're going straight to the trenches. Skruff definitely keeps you on your toes for this one.

So Wrong recreates the intro from the 90s championed by the likes of Adam F, DJ Crystl, and LTJ Bukem, but the flavor is constant – Squelches, rude bass, reverb, female vocals – you get the idea at this point. Brilliance – and an imprint on the soul.

Sequent showcases beautiful piano playing through emphatic drums and reverberant textures on Mindset. Breathy female tones accent the backdrop as the bassline sets the feels on fire. As the dance gets deeper, Mindset gains additional instrumental accompaniment and a full-on vocal performance. An absolute bliss bath.

Lastly, Oh Boy, just like the last can't be judged by the intro. Wonderful backdrop sound design, reece- like bass, strings, keys, and a female vocal create the perfection that is this.

What else can we say about this EP except for 11/10? It truly is!
